Whitefish Fun

October 8th

I love Saturdays!!   A of all, no work and all play.  B of all, we get to go exploring!!  Oh and get ready, this is a long post!

So as we woke up in the lovely trailer we quickly got ready to head towards Kalispell, MT where our preceptor and homeslice Harold lives.  To get to Kalispell you have to drive through the south side Glacier Mountain Park.  The hour and half drive is b-e-a-u-tiful.  On the east side of the mountains where we are living in Browning, a large portion of the mountains are covered with snow from the past few days.  I can’t believe from the time we arrived in MT to today so much snow has accumulated up there on the mountain.  However, as you travel west the snow decreases because on the west side of the mountains the temperature is normally 10-20 degrees higher.  Crazy, right!?!

Also as we drove we got to see several rivers which were breath taking.  Brittny and I are both big fans of the water so we were like two little kids being so pumped to take in all of the beauty before us.  Also both of us like to dabble in the arts so our creative brains were churning as we were taking pictures that one day we can recreate with our own artistic twist.  Also I learned a new fact…did you know Van Gogh was taking Digoxin back in the day when he painted Starry Nights?  Well he was and the side effects of blurry visions and halos is the real story behind his inspiration.  Yay pharmacy and art!! I knew one day these two worlds would combine!!

Ok, so we arrived at Harold’s farm around 10am.  Here we also got to meet his best bud, Gus (his dog).  Well in the scurry to get back in the cars to go to our next stop we forgot Gus.  Yikes!  When we arrived at our next stop, the beautiful farm of the sweet Tutvet family, Harold realized Gus wasn’t with us so he headed back to his house to rescue his bestie.  At the Tutvet’s farm, Linds got to relive her cowgirl days by going horse back riding.  It was so fun to watch her hang with the horses.  For Brit and I, horses are great and all, but after awhile we are ready to move on to the next activity.  So as our little cowgirl set out, Brit and I made a quick Walmart run to pick up a few items for the trailer.

About an hour or so later, Brit and I swung by the farm to pick up the pooped out cowgirl.  Riding horses is exhausting from what I hear!!  So at this point in the day, 2ish maybe, we were all sooooo hungry.  We called up Harold for a suggestion and what a suggestion he gave, Mackinzie’s Pizza.  He had told us there was one in Kalispell, but for some reason our GPS took us to the nearby city of Whitefish.  This ended up being ideal since Harold was already in Whitefish, so he joined us, and then Whitefish is one of my new favorite places!!

Lunch was delish and full of laughs.  I wish yall could all meet Harold. He is one odd bird, but we just love him.  You just never know what will come out of his mouth, but count on it being funny!  After lunch Lindsay, Brittny, and I all thought Harold was going to go up Big Mountain with us so we all piled in our truck to realize Harold wasn’t going with us.  So we drove him back to his car where we had just walked to pick up Gus who had been chillin in his car.  Haha, oh Harold.

Then we were off to explore Big Mountain.  We begin driving up this road that we thought would take us up to the top however it doesn’t.  Instead we ended up driving on the west side of the mountain where these gorgeous mountain homes are located on the banks of Whitefish Lake.  Of course we have to pull off the road to get some pictures.  So we pulled off at this one spot where Linds decided we should go exploring and go down to the bank, only problem is the steep bank and my lack of exploring shoes.  I had on my cowboy boots which have no traction, but I still went  along with the idea.  As Linds and Brit easily made it down the bank I grabbed a big stick to be my hiking stick and then partially slid down (by accident)…it was real funny!!

After we all got down to this other road we started making our way to these awesome summer homes.  Since no one was around we took the liberty to play on their pebble beach and dock along the gorgeous lake.  No worries, we have lots of pictures to document!

Once we were back at the truck and started driving, we realize that this wasn’t the road to take us to the top of the mountain, so we asked this rando guy near his car.  He told us how to find the road and we took off.  Once at the top we saw where the ski resort for Big Mountain was.  Since it is the off season and no one was really around we walked around and ended up near a broken ski lift area.  In efforts to be adventurous and get some sweet pics we all took turns climbing up these poles of the ski lift.  We got some rockin pictures :)

After exploring and hiking around for an hour or so we headed down the mountain to go meet up with Harold, his wife, and a doctor and his wife from the reservation at this cute Italian place called Mambos.  It was really tasty and fun to chat with everyone.  At the table they gave you crayons and the table cover was white paper so Harold encouraged me to draw, which I did of course.  With Harold’s guidance I drew two wine glasses, some cheese, some grapes, and two mice cross-country skiing through the mountains.  I named the mice, Harold and Pete (our new doctor friend) since they love cross-country skiing.

After some good fellowship and a yummy meal, the three of us headed over to a coffee shop to snag some  wifi and to get caffeinated before our drive back.  It was a great coffee shop called the Red Caboose.  If you are ever in Whitefish and like coffee, I highly recommend!

Now as I type this we are carefully driving through the Glacier Mountains to our home away from home, our trailer. I would have to say, this has been a great day!!!
